Homogeneous marble is a calcitic natural stone that runs in almost a single white tone, without veining or large color transitions on its surface. It is one of the simplest and most sought-after supply classes of Marmara marble. The absence of veining does not make the stone ordinary; on the contrary, it places it in a hard-to-find and therefore valuable category.
For a homogeneous formation to emerge within the calcitic structure of Marmara Island, the vein from which the raw block is selected must have been deposited under very specific geological conditions. It comes from rare veins where mineral lines did not enter the stone during millions of years of metamorphic process and calcium carbonate crystallized in even distribution. For this reason, the homogeneous class is supplied at a lower yield compared to classic or veined types extracted from the same quarry.
Looking at its technical properties, the calcium carbonate ratio of homogeneous Marmara marble is around 98%. Density is approximately 2.70 g/cm3, water absorption is at or below 0.2%, and compressive strength sits in the 80-100 MPa range. Mohs hardness ranges between 3-4. Whiteness (CIE Y) is kept high, and a pure ground that does not drift toward yellow or gray is the defining visual criterion of the class. Frost resistance is suitable for exterior facade applications, although homogeneous slabs are mostly used in interior aesthetics-driven projects.
In architectural use, homogeneous marble stands out as a cornerstone of minimalist spaces. Wide wall and floor surfaces in hotel bathrooms, uninterrupted back walls in office lobbies, museum and gallery interiors, and boutique residential bathrooms and kitchen islands are its principal application areas. The absence of veining quiets the stone itself and brings the surrounding design elements forward.
The bookmatch and large-format advantages emerge especially with homogeneous marble. In veined types, bookmatching creates pattern symmetry, while in a homogeneous slab, since there is no veining, the transition line almost disappears when two slabs are placed side by side and the space gains an uninterrupted marble surface feel. Large-format cuts above 320x160 cm are evaluated in this class as door-height panels or seamless wall surfaces on a single slab.
The blocks reserved as the homogeneous class from Saraylar (Marmara Island) quarries are the result of our three-generation natural stone selection and supply experience. Predicting which vein will yield a pure white block is sometimes possible even from the first cut surface of a raw block, and this observation is knowledge accumulated and passed down through the years. At Alpay Doğaltaş we process homogeneous slabs at our partner workshops in compliance with international quality standards and TS EN test procedures.
