Marble slabs are large surface plates obtained by slicing raw stone in block form to specific thicknesses. Often called slabs in the industry, this product is the form of natural stone ready for direct architectural application. A slab emerges from within a block weighing hundreds of tons during production and passes through several technical stages before reaching its final form. With our three-generation natural stone supply experience, we have observed over the years that slab supply is a far more layered process than it appears. At the heart of our family heritage dating back to 1962 sits an approach that moves with patience, measurement, and control at every stage of natural stone.
The process of transforming the blocks we source from the Saraylar region of Marmara Island into slabs takes place at our partner workshops. Slab cutting is generally done with large gang saws or wire cutting systems. Gang saws split blocks into dozens of parallel slabs at the same time and offer the advantage of serial production. Wire cutting systems suit projects that need more flexible dimensional preferences and especially those that require special cutting planning according to vein direction. Which cutting technique is selected is determined by the type of block, the desired slab thickness, and the intended end use. In marbles with pronounced veined patterns such as Pijama Ekvator or Panda, the vein direction is carefully planned at the cutting stage. This is because consecutive slabs taken from the same block, when brought together in the right order, can form mirror-like continuous patterns.
After cutting, slabs move on to the calibration and surface treatment stages. Calibration is a technical correction process that ensures every slab is of the same thickness. Standard slab thicknesses are generally set as 2 cm or 3 cm. A thickness of 2 cm is a common choice for wall cladding, wet area applications, and furniture surfaces. A thickness of 3 cm stands out in floor applications, kitchen countertops, and areas requiring higher durability. After calibration, slabs are subjected to one of several surface treatments such as polishing, honing, sandblasting, or antiquing. Polishing is the classic finish that brings the natural veining of marble out at its most prominent. Honing yields a matte, velvety texture and is increasingly preferred in contemporary interior designs.
The standard dimensions of marble slabs depend on block size and cutting technology. A typical slab varies from 250 to 320 cm in length and from 150 to 200 cm in width. These dimensions are decisive not only in terms of production but also in terms of shipment and application. We supply the slabs we select from the Pure White, Dolomite, and classic Marmara varieties of Marmara marble at dimensions and surface finishes suitable for the project. The customer's square meter requirement, the characteristics of the application area, and the desired vein harmony are aspects discussed in detail at the beginning of every supply request.
